I’m surrounded by Communists pretending to be Liberals

I’ve always believed I lived in a democracy and have been grateful for this blessing.  In my early twenties I was a Rifleman with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada http://www.argylls.ca/ .  Although I was never called upon to defend our great nation, I was ready, willing and able to do so.

I’ve voted in most elections I’ve been eligible to vote in knowing that others before me have fought and died to give me this democratic freedom.

When the Liberals have won in the past I’ve ground my teeth and said nothing as they destroy our once great nation; after all these leaders had been democratically elected by the majority of voters.  I may have written MPs or attended rallies; but never did I complain that these leaders were not meant to be our leaders by the laws of man or the Law of God.

Recently however; I’ve noted a disturbing trend among the Liberals – who are now no longer deserving of the name and hence identified as Communists pretending to be Liberals in the title of this blog.

In witness of the truth of this I offer the following defintions of Liberal from dictionary.com:

  • favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
  • favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.
  • free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners.
  • open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc.

With the above definitions in mind let’s consider some recent happenings in Toronto or Canada.

I remember voting in the last Federal Election on October 14th, 2008.  It was a Tuesday evening, and the polling booth was at a local school I would pass when I picked my daughter up from Girl Guides and walked her home.  One of her friends from our neighbourhood joined us, so I took both of them with me to set the example as a father and an adult in the community that elections are important and we should all exercise our democratic right to vote for the leaders of our choice.

I often vote not so much FOR a particular leader as AGAINST the ones that will really screw things up.  There have been a few – very few – happy exceptions to this rule.

While not agreeing with everything Prime Minister Stephen Harper is for; I was none-the-less happy to place my vote for Prime Minister Harper.  Unfortunately; the Conservatives did not have enough votes for a majority government but formed a minority government.

On December 1st 2008, only a month and a half after explaining about our democratic right to vote to my daughter, the leaders of the Liberal Party, New Democratic Party, and Bloc Québécois attempted an unprecedented coup; and approached the governor-general for the purpose of forming a  coalition government.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Canadian_parliamentary_dispute

I remember thinking at the time that it was funny how conservative voters could suffer through liberal governments, but once a conservative government was elected the first thing the liberals in the country did was attempt a coup.

I attended the anti-coalition rally at Queen’s Park and was happy to see that it was well-attended; some photos and a video available here:  http://darrylwolkpolitics.blogspot.com/2008/12/photos-from-toronto-anti-coalition.html

Now in 2010 I see the very same thing happening.  On September 25th 2009 I was happy to read that David Miller would not be running for Mayor of Toronto in the next election.  My happiness was tempered with knowing that we might end up with someone worse; though that boggled the imagination.  I remember wishing that someone would convince Councilor Rob Ford to run for mayor.

Someone must have been listening; because Rob Ford announced his candidacy and has been leading the race.

So what do I find in my mailbox on Friday?  A letter from the Ford for Mayor campaign which includes the following:

“Some of my opponents have even suggested that they would not accept the final result of our democratic election, if it were to mean that the people of Toronto would choose me as the next Mayor.  Councillor Kyle Rae told the Toronto Sun: “in my opinion, if Mayor Ford is elected, city council will have a caucus meeting and they will choose their own mayor and (Ford) will be the mayor in name.”

and

“Some current councillors think that the people of Toronto do not have the “intellect” to make the right choice.  Councilor Augimeri told AM640’s John Oakley that: ‘it’s appalling that Ford is ahead and it seems he has attracted a very base line of thinking and feeling”. Councillor Rae had the same thought process when he was quoted by the Toronto Sun: “most thinking people in Toronto would be so embarrassed by him being mayor that there would be an obligation on council to do something.”

It seems if you don’t follow the communist line that democracy can be suspended and your intelligence called into question.

So much for the definitions of liberal above:

  • favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties
  • favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression
  • free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant

Which is no doubt why someone I consider a spiritual shepherd refers to them as the un-liberal left.

Me? I’ll continue to call them communists.
